Before you ask what a model can or cannot do, you need to remember what a model is: a tool. And with any tool, if you don’t know how to use it, there could be unintended consequences. For wastewater treatment, these models are complex mathematical systems that are intended to simulate a user-defined system. Simply put: these models are intended to aid the user by integrating the functions and math behind a user-friendly interface that allows for quick answers to complicated problems. While the intention is to aid users, the underlying intention of the author(s) is that those users have the necessary background knowledge to adequately use the tool.
