Manuel Perez is the Energy Management Coordinator and Senior Electrical Engineer at El Paso Water. In this capacity he oversees all energy matters regarding the utility, as well as Principal Electrical Engineer regarding electrical projects. Before joining EPWater, Manuel worked as engineering manager in an electrical equipment manufacturer in Texas, design engineer at electrical utilities in Colorado and Texas, and as a consulting engineer in Texas. Manuel has a bachelors of science from U. Texas at El Paso, Masters of Engineering from U. Colorado and is a registered professional engineer in Texas.

Abstract

The cost of energy is usually the second largest expense for a utility. The cost of energy is primarily controlled by outside market forces. In order for utilities to manage their energy costs, they must implement some type of energy management plan that will successfully and consistently implement energy saving plans, or energy efficiency improvement practices to meet this goal. A series of directions from top management will not accomplish this. An energy management master plan is the route to take. This is the journey that El Paso Water has decided to take.
