Description: Process Modeling of Pulp and Paper Wastewater Treatment Ponds
Process Modeling of Pulp and Paper Wastewater Treatment Ponds
Abstract
A new commercially available pond model was used to develop and dynamically calibrate a process model of a pulp and paper mill wastewater treatment facility. The process consists of primary treatment and four treatment ponds operated in series prior to discharge. The model showed very good calibration of carbonaceous material, nitrogenous parameters, and dissolved oxygen and was used to predict and optimize treatment performance, aeration demand, and help with aeration equipment sizing.
