Planning for Lake Water Quality Enhancement and Flood Protection in Florida
Abstract
The Lake Placid Study Area is a complex 56 square kilometer watershed located in south central Florida (Lake Placid, FL). The watershed includes three lakes: Lake Placid; Mirror Lake to the north; and Lake Annie to the south. The Watershed Inventory, Floodplain Analysis and Mapping, Surface Water Resource Assessment, and Master Plan Report were completed for the Lake Placid watershed in 2014. The plan was the culmination of four years of detailed work including: field assessment and survey; extensive flow and water quality monitoring; hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality modeling for the watershed and three lakes; the evaluation of alternatives to reduce flooding and enhance lake water quality; the preparation of new FEMA 100-year floodplain maps; and the development of conceptual water quality improvement projects.
