Incentives for Green Infrastructure on Private Property: Lessons Learned (Water Research Foundation Project #4684)
Abstract
The objective of the project is to identify and understand lessons learned and best practices for green infrastructure incentive programs for private property owners including: stormwater fee discount/credits, grants, rebate/installation financing, development/redevelopment incentives, awards and recognition, and credit trading programs. Using a case study approach, the research team will develop pragmatic and user-friendly guidance for utility and planning professionals looking to implement (or improve upon) GI incentive program(s) for private property owners. The project is unique in that it will highlight lessons learned from design and implementation of existing programs (including program failures and successes); it will also incorporate private sector perspectives to help utilities understand the different factors that drive program participation. The research is still underway; the project team expects the final report/guidance to be completed in April of 2018.
