Nutritional Biostimulants, a Powerful and Proven Strategy To Improve Wastewater Treatment Efficiency
Abstract
Bioremediation has been used (domestically and internationally) successfully to treat polluted soils, surface water, groundwater, and wastewaters with nutritional biostimulant technology. The mechanism of bioremediation degrades organic matter and pollutants into carbon dioxide (CO2), water (H2O), and humus digested biomatter. This paper focuses primarily on using nutritional biostimulants to optimize and accelerate the bioremediation of municipal and industrial wastewater in wastewater treatment systems. When wastewater treatment systems are nutritionally optimized, efficiency is improved, money is saved, and wastewater treatment processes are maximized. Historically many wastewater treatment facilities, including municipal and industrial wastewaters, lack adequate nutritional building blocks essential for peak microbial growth and ideal species diversity, and therefore experience inefficient waste stabilization in the facility. In addition, laboratory studies, of a wide range of effluents, have established that industrial wastes are not nutritionally balanced for optimal wastewater treatment. (Wheatley et al., 1998)
