BENCHMARKING CANADIAN WASTEWATER UTILITIES - A LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP
Abstract
An integrated approach to benchmarking has provided the Wastewater Utility Managers from 17 Canadian Wastewater Utilities (CWU) with an accurate and reliable tool to assist their quest for superior performance. The quantitative performance measures developed as part of the project, combined with the shared experiences and networking between the utility managers has provided a superior resource of information from which improvements in operations can be identified and implemented. The project approach has focussed on benchmarking wastewater collection systems and treatment plant operations within the context of the six main wastewater utility goals. The common goals are: reliable and sustainable sewerage and drainage infrastructure, accessible and sufficient sewerage and drainage infrastructure, meet service and performance requirements at sustainable cost, enhance quality of life, safe work environment, and satisfied customers.
