BUCKING CONVENTIONAL WISDOM – TAKING THE “O” OUT OF DBO

Adding the O (operate) to design-build (DB) is actually a disincentive to partnering. “Just say no to O!”Design-build does not necessarily mean design-build-operate. What it means is the methodology for project delivery changes from conventional design with contractor building to design-build by a contractor engineer. Makingit DBO assumes that by adding the O, the benefits may be greater. While this is the conventional wisdom, we willshow that having DBO may not be the best way to go, but in fact may be a less-preferred methodology to design-build plus best practices. You will see that adding the O often adds cost, time, conflict, and risk to a project.
