Applying CFD Techniques to Improve Design of Large Circular Clarifiers
Abstract
A 3-dimensional clarifier model, based on CFD theory has been used in clarifier design optimization and troubleshooting in existing system for many years. This paper introduces two application examples of the model in larger circular clarifiers in the processes with different features of sludge inventory and solids settling property. Using combination of the minor modifications developed and evaluated based on the modeling results the clarifier performance as well as the capacity has been substantially enhanced in the given process operations.
