MINERGY GLASS AGGREGATE TECHNOLOGY Vitrification of Wastewater Solids
Abstract
Minergy Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wisconsin Energy, has developed an innovative technology that enables the complete recycling of wastewater solids. Minergy's glass aggregate technology is a vitrification process that recycles wastewater sludges into glass aggregate, a glass-like material used in the manufacturing of floor tiles, abrasives, a concrete additive, and asphalt paving. In addition, the technology produces renewable energy and is cost competitive with traditional disposal methods. Minergy's glass aggregate technology is also of timely importance as it eliminates many of the environmental concerns and liabilities associated with traditional wastewater solids management practices.
