Sludge Centrifuge Pilot Project Cost Effective Treatment Alternative for Oily Sludge
Abstract
Because of a sludge pond closure, increased maintenance and yard activity, Union Pacific Railroad had 1.8 million gallons of oily sludge stored in two tanks adjacent at the North Little Rock, Arkansas yard. Disposal was originally estimated to cost 540,000. Investigation into alternative methods resulted in the selection of a centrifuge process for increased oil separation prior to disposal of remaining waste.
