Abstract
Can wastewater facilities become energy self-reliant? The answer to this question is, of course, yes. But other questions such as: Why should treatment plants strive for energy independence?; How can wastewater treatment plants achieve this goal?; and What new cost effective technologies are available?, are more difficult to answer. In the paper we will try to answer these and other questions.
