Demonstration of “Dynamic Tangential Filtration” at Palm Beach County to Produce High Quality Reuse Water
Abstract
A model UL 1001 Ultrascreen®Microfilter (UL) was tested at the Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility of Palm Beach County (PBC) from July 2006 through February 2007. This was the first full scale demonstration of this disk filter technology patented by Nuove Energie, s.r.l. in Vicenza Italy, and introduced into the US in April 2006 by Nova Water Technologies LLC. Nuove Energie has been engaged in the manufacture of dynamic disk filters for industrial applications since 1980, and has been selling the Ultrascreen in Europe for tertiary filtration for the past five years. The objective of this demonstration was to prove that the Ultrascreen could operate at loading rates as high as 12 gallons per minute per square foot versus existing technologies, and produce the same high quality plant effluent, suitable for reuse in public access areas, while producing a dramatically reduced amount of reject water.
