Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District Performs Comprehensive Odor Study on Its Entire Sanitary Interceptor System
Abstract
The Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (SRCSD, District) operates approximately 90 miles of interceptor collection pipes (i.e. greater than 36-inches in diameter), with approximately 90 additional miles scheduled to be built by 2014. SRCSD has studied sulfide generation and control as well as corrosion issues and controls both in the collection system and at the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant through various studies performed over the last few years.Due to the recent changes in chemical feed in the collection system, new interceptor sewers coming online, and several planned future interceptors, SRCSD is currently performing a comprehensive odor study on its interceptor system. The goals of the study are to continue to limit odor complaints to no more than 8 per year, to evaluate the potential for odor problem areas in the expanded interceptor system, and to evaluate existing SRCSD odor control measures for effectiveness.
