Water Supply Diversification: Key to Success for Kearns Improvement District
Abstract
The Kearns Improvement District (KID) desires to diversify its water supply through a Feasibility Study, Master Plan, and eventual construction of a secondary irrigation water supply system. Secondary irrigation systems which provide non-potable pressurized irrigation water to residences and business are common in Utah. The vast majority of these systems have as their water source mountain snowmelt runoff. KID, due to its location, does not have the luxury of access to snowmelt runoff, as such other water sources such as reclaimed water, stormwater, lower quality well water, and lower quality canal water were all investigated as possible sources of supply. This paper presents the findings of the Feasibility Study for providing additional water supplies to KID.
