Vernonia Natural Wastewater Treatment and Water Reuse
Abstract
The Town of Vernonia, Oregon wants to upgrade their current facultative pond system to meet Class A water quality using a natural system. Working with the City's public works committee and the Oregon regulators, an innovative flow sheet was developed that incorporates settling ponds, recirculation, vertical flow gravel-based constructed wetlands, and intermittent sand filtration followed by disinfection to meet the requirements at half the cost of a new mechanical plant.
