Quantifying the Greenhouse Gas Emissions at the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Sanitation
Abstract
The Bureau of Sanitation (BOS) in the City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works has developed a spreadsheet-based model to quantify the emissions of greenhouse gases from municipal operations in the BOS. The model quantifies emissions from wastewater treatment, landfills, biosolids management, solid waste collection, commuting, and chemical trucking. The BOS emits approximately 620,000 metric tons of CO2e from its municipal operations. Emissions from facilities are also compared against regulatory thresholds to determine their applicability status. This model will serve as a basis to expand emission quantification to all City departments.
