One Water LA: A Collaborative Approach to Integrated Water Management
Abstract
The City of Los Angeles is currently in the final stage of the preparation of the One Water LA 2040 Plan. One Water LA will provide a comprehensive vision for the City’s water management strategies through year 2040. One Water LA takes a holistic and integrated planning approach by considering all aspects of the urban water cycle, including imported water, groundwater, conservation, potable water, wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater, as “One Water”. To do this smarter collaboration within the City of LA and regionally is integral. This presentation will first explain how different aspects of One Water LA were developed with the involvement of two large city departments (LASAN and LADWP), as well as a steering committee, advisory group, and large group of 300+ stakeholders. The presentation will be concluded with a summary of the recommended future implementation strategies that maximize water recycling from all of the City’s four water reclamation plants, focus on multi-beneficial stormwater projects and collectively will make Los Angeles a more sustainable and supply resilient City.
