He has seven years of design experience including large diameter pipeline, trenchless installation technologies, wastewater collection, and water transmission and distribution. Tim works for Wade Trim out of the Tampa office and is currently managing projects across the state. Condition Assessment and Rehabilitation of a City of Tampa 54-inch Sanitary Force Main

Abstract

In 2018 while attempting to install a surge control facility on a 54-inch Force Main, the City of Tampa Wastewater Department discovered that the City’s critical pipeline was deteriorating as a result of crown corrosion caused by hydrogen sulfide. The City worked with a consultant and contractor to develop an approach to assess the condition of the force main. The results of the assessment showed that nearly 500 linear feet of force main would need to be rehabilitated in busy downtown Tampa. The City, with the help of a consultant and contractor, developed a bypass plan to isolate the failing portion of pipeline and rehabilitate the interior of the pipe. The rehabilitation required structural integrity; thus, a carbon fiber reinforced polymer liner was selected and installed. After tests confirmed the liner met City requirements, the 54-inch force main was returned to service and the bypass piping was dewatered and removed.
