Emergy Evaluation of Wastewater-derived Struvite as an Alternative to Conventional Fertilizer for Crop Production
Abstract
Audience will learn the thermodynamic comparison of two fertilizer systems and how alternative nutrient management through nutrient recovery from municipal wastewater may achieve economic and environmental benefits via higher system efficiency. Nutrient recovery from wastewater can provide wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) an opportunity to prevent eutrophication in receiving waters and potentially comply with regulatory nutrient limits in the effluent. It can also lead to the production of fertilizers regionally, as well as a revenue source for the WWTP.
