The Nitty Gritty on Inspection and Maintenance of Green Infrastructure Practices in Capitol Region Watershed District
Abstract
For over 15 years, Capitol Region Watershed District (CRWD) and its partners have designed and constructed over 1,700 stormwater best management practices (BMPs) in the Twin Cities Metro Area of Minnesota. The BMP types and scales range from regional underground infiltration systems to small scale residential rain gardens, which were constructed to meet CRWD stormwater regulations or were voluntarily constructed through CRWD's cost share grant program. It is estimated that nearly 300 million gallons of stormwater runoff is treated annually. Of the 1,700 practices located in CRWD, nearly one-third (approx. 500) of the BMPs are operated, inspected and maintained by CRWD. This presentation will highlight the observations, data and lessons learned from the inspection and maintenance of the Green Line green infrastructure practices and nearly 500 BMPs funded through several CRWD cost share grant programs.
