Digital Transformation 3.0: Busting Open Access to the Green Economy with Gig Work
Abstract
For smarter and more responsive cities, the next wave of digital transformation must be intentional, inclusive and climate-focused. Cities like DC are using technology to help balance competing priorities across Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance, solid waste management, smart mobility and City workforce development goals. A new app, Frontline Gig, is helping by connecting an on-demand hourly workforce to streamlined workflows for inspection, maintenance and clean-up work throughout the City. Working with existing partners, the District was able to optimize its scheduling and reporting to address trash TMDLs while increasing its programmatic responsibilities to include green infrastructure.
