Abstract
The Metropolitan Council (MCES) placed three new 105 dry ton per day (dtpd) Fluidized Bed Incineration and Energy Recovery systems into service in 2005. The facility was rerated during commissioning to 120 dtpd each. Upon start up, the facility was operated 24/7 with all units in operation due to loadings, air pollution control requirements, design limitations, operating procedures and maintenance requirements.In anticipation of the addition of future solids management capacity, the MCES explored the sustainability of its solids management portfolio considering Economics, Social Impacts, Regulated Air Quality, Green House Gas Emissions and Reuse. This paper describes the current status of the Metropolitan Council initiative to provide sustainable incineration to meet the needs of their customers.
