Maximize Your Investment - The City of Lorain, Ohio Collection System Optimization Eliminates Sanitary Sewer Overflows
Abstract
This paper will describe how the City of Lorain, Ohio, systematically developed an approach to evaluate and optimize their sanitary sewer collection system. The goal of the study was to maximize the existing collection system, once the deep storage tunnel becomes operational. The study helped Lorain define minor system improvements to reduce Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO) without investing in significant and costly capital improvements. The City is under an Administrative Consent Order (ACO) with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) to eliminate all remaining SSOs.
