EPA's National Nutrient Strategy – Fifteen Years Later

This paper analyzes the progress made in the last fifteen years for developing the NNC, the obstacles and difficulties faced by the EPA and the states, as well as the overall status of the NNC nationwide. A review of the accomplishments and impediments of the last one-and-a-half decade is crucial for future success in developing a sustainable nutrient management strategy. Each important milestone is discussed for its overall impact not only on the current development of the NNC, but also on the future of the NNC as well. We want to learn from our successes and failures of the last fifteen years so that the next fifteen years may be more productive than the previous decade-and-a-half.
