Pressure Sewer Systems – A Wastewater System Approach
Abstract
The Priority Sewerage Program (PSP) Alliance was set up by Sydney Water (SW) in response to the NSW Government's environmental initiative to sewer particular areas within SW's jurisdiction, which had not been sewered previously. Over the last 11 years PSP have completed 11 schemes across 23 villages with 6 more currently under design or construction. The vast majority of these schemes have used pressure sewer system (PSS) wastewater collection systems. PSS includes a small tank and macerator pump on each property which pumps the wastewate through small diameter pipework to the downstream system. It provided a number of benefits across the projects including allowing:The removal of a number of pumping stations across the schemes.Fully sealed booster pumping stations to be used.Significant use of trenchless technology, particularly horizontal directional drilling (HDD).The means to flush the large dips created by long HDD's.
