NO STINK FROM THE START Planning and Design of a “Zero Odor Tolerance” Wastewater Treatment Plant in Northern Kentucky
Abstract
Sanitation District Number 1 of Northern Kentucky (SD1) serves a three-county area across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Rapid expansion of its service area since 1995 has required SD1 to begin a capital improvements program consisting of rehabilitation and repair of its wastewater collection system, coupled with the construction of new sewers, pump stations and treatment facilities. One of the first new projects will be the Western Regional WWTP, a new 20mgd secondary plant in Boone County. This project has been planned, and is currently under design, with odor prevention, control and treatment as one of its principal design criteria. This paper describes the odor control measures being planned and designed for the plant.
