TWO PHASED ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OPTIONS
Abstract
Two-phase, anaerobic digestion consists of at least four separate concepts: Acid/gas phase Anaerobic Digestion (sometimes called DuPage two phase digestion), Anaerobic Stabilization Thermophilic Mesophilic Digestion (ASTM) and Temperature Phased Digestion (TPAD)and Thermal Hydroylis/Gas phase Anaerobic Digestion (THG). Based upon information from full scale operating systems, these have the ability – versus similar sized single stage mesophilic digesters – to produce less, and a better quality, biosolids, while usually being more economical to build and operate. These technologies offer the possibility of inexpensive, fast expansions / upgrades of existing anaerobic digestion systems.
