Abstract
This Feasibility Study for a centralized Waste Handling and Treatment Center for the Jose Industrial Condominium (Jose Condominium) was conducted for PDVSA Petroleo y Gas, S.A. (PDVSA) by Camp Dresser & McKee International Inc. (CDM) of Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, under a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). Otepi Consultores, S.A. of Caracas, Venezuela, assisted CDM with this study. The study concludes that the Jose Waste Treatment Center is feasible.The Jose Industrial Complex is a unique place in the world, because it concentrates several petrochemical plants and heavy oil upgrading facilities, producing a mix of wastes which needs to be treated in a facility under high international standards and state-of-the-art technology.The study covers the typical steps of a feasibility study, starting from the market research, represented as a data collection, and finishing in the financial viability study of the plant. Technical analysis was required in order to select the appropriate processes for the treatment, combining an economy-of-scale design, as well as an environmental friendly facility.The study concludes that the treatment is feasible technically as well as from the financial and economical point of view.
