SMART APPLICATION OF SEWER RENOVATION TECHNOLOGIES
Abstract
Effective management of sewer collection systems requires constant vigilance for new technologies to improve the performance of the system at a reasonable cost. Today, technology provides many innovative techniques and products for renovating sanitary sewers while minimizing costs and disruption. However, good management must decide which methods and products are the most applicable for a given job. The Central Contra Costa Sanitary District (District) has developed a comprehensive engineering tool kit that effectively determines the most economic/practical methods, whether it is an emerging sewer renovation technology or traditional method, for replacing and renovating deteriorating sewers. This engineering tool kit evaluates the needs of the internal/external customers, provides for a thorough technical review of methods available, and determines whether or not using these methods is commercially feasible, thus allowing the District to maximize the value of the capital budget dollar in return for a new, quality collection system.
