GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES FOR PUMPING STATION ASSESSMENTS
Abstract
Pumping stations can be both a great resource and a major liability for municipalities. A properly operating pumping station ensures delivery of potable, waste, or storm water without interruption, and ultimately guarantees a satisfied consumer. However, pumping stations require continued operation and maintenance. Pumping systems account for nearly 20% of the world's energy usage and the more efficiently they are operated, the greater the cost savings to the owner. In addition, pumping stations can contribute to sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs) and be vulnerable points in a distribution system. As a result, there is a great need for assessing the condition of existing pumping stations and implementing rehabilitation measures to ensure they are operating properly.
