RESTORATION OF A SHALLOW EUTROPHIC LAKE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA USING INNOVATIVE WATER QUALITY AND QUANTITY TECHNIQUES
Abstract
Lake Elsinore in Riverside County, California is a large, shallow lake with no natural outlet that is highlyeutrophic. The largest natural lake in southern California, its regional aesthetic and recreational values are seriously affected by low lake levels, algae blooms, turbidity, odors, and fish kills. The Lake Elsinore and San Jacinto Watersheds Authority, a new joint powers authority of which Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District is a member, has a developed an innovative five point program for lake level stabilization and enhancement. The program is underway and is the first of its kind in California.
