Abstract
The Westside Interceptor (WSI) is one of the major sanitary interceptors in the City of Lansing. The sewer was constructed in 1965, and consists of approximately 13,500 LF of 54 and 60-inch reinforced concrete pipe. The WSI conveys a peak flow of approximately 64 MGD from three major lift stations to the Lansing WWTP. The sewer has been subjected to high hydrogen sulfide (H2S) levels and turbulent force main discharge conditions, which caused moderate to severe degradation of the sewer and manholes in the system. The system also flows in a surcharged condition in the downstream reaches, which has caused significant grit accumulation, and has blocked the flow of air at this location.The overall scope of the project was to rehabilitate the sewer and manhole structures. The project was performed over a period of 15 years, and used many different techniques and technologies to accomplish the rehabilitation.
