OPERATIONAL STRATEGY OF A PARTIAL NITRITATION-SBR (PN-SBR) TREATING URBAN LANDFILL LEACHATE TO ACHIEVE A STABLE INFLUENT FOR AN ANAMMOX REACTOR
Abstract
In recent years, new technologies have been developed to deal with nitrogen high loaded streams, most of them based on the anammox process. Partial nitritation has traditionally been carried out through the SHARON process. In this paper it is compared the system performance of a Partial Nitritation-Sequencing Batch Reactor (PN-SBR) under two different operational strategies (feed-batch and step-feed), to assess them in its view with the coupling with an anammox reactor, when treating raw urban landfill leachate. Thus, results of this study have demonstrated that the step-feed strategy is a more suitable strategy than the feedbatch, because it presents a global better performance, less fluctuation in its operation and higher effluent quality stabilization.
