Light Through Your Effluent - UV Disinfection Evaluation and Selection for Small Treatment Plants
Abstract
The increasing concerns regarding disinfection byproducts (e.g. THMs) and the safety of disinfection practices have led to an increasing popularity in the use of ultraviolet light (UV) disinfection in wastewater treatment facilities. Four (4) Northern California coastal and central valley wastewater reclamation plants seeking a reliable and safe disinfection method for their reclaimed effluent made the decision to implement UV disinfection. All four plants, with flows ranging from 0.5mgd to 10mgd, now produce reclaimed water to meet California Title 22 non-restricted water reuse standards with an effluent total coliform limit at 2.2 MPN/100mL.
