Enhanced Grit Removal in Small and Large Wastewater Operations with Geyser Hybrid Pump
Abstract
The Airlift Pumps is commonly used in small to large wastewater treatment plants for grit removal. To compensate for their small suction force, mechanical pumps are also used to supplement the grit removal process. However, due to the abrasion and clogging, mechanical pumps require costly periodic maintenance. The Geyser Hybrid Pump (GHP), recently developed to compensate for these problems, is a combination of the Airlift Pump and the Geyser Pump. The GHP has been tested for grit removal for over a year at an operating wastewater treatment plant. The test included a comparison, using numerical analysis, to a conventional Airlift Pump. The results showed the superiority of the Geyser Hybrid Pump for grit removal as compared to other pumps. Superiority and durability of the pump was confirmed at a wastewater treatment plant in GA.
