FLOATABLES CONTROL IS SURFACING AGAIN, WHAT CAN YOU DO?

Abstract

The focus of this paper is to identify some of the many technologies available to abate solids and floatables discharges at CSOs, including traditional technologies such as street sweeping, baffles, bar racks, screens, nets, and booms, as well as emerging technologies for source and end of pipe control. Many new controls have become available in the last few years, particularly from the pre-cast concrete industry, including examples of “Green” controls. The information presented is based on literature reviews and the authors'CSO control experience in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky. Where available, existing information on effectiveness and O&M requirements for the various types of control are identified and discussed.
