Matthiesen, Ed
Ed has a 40 year career in water resource engineering. His primary interest is in solving difficult water quality and flooding problems. Currently he is interested in the use of biochar to capture bacteria from storm water. He also has looked into the use of pourous asphalt to eliminate the need for road salt, modular Do-It-Yourself Green roof planters to reduce runoff volume, aeration features using public art in low dissolved oxygen streams and various woody strucutures for trout habitat. He is also on a University of Minnesota team investigating the use of biochar to capture PFAS and a US Geological Survey group looking into biochar to capture pollutants of emerging concern.
