MANAGING A LARGE WATER SYSTEM EXPANSION

For the past decade Las Vegas has been a boomtown! A dozen new casinos were built in the 90's, adding over 30,000 hotel rooms. The permanent resident population is over 1.2 million and growing. Almost 4000 people move to Las Vegas each month. The population of the valley increased 80% in the 90's. All this growth requires water. Water for both resorts and homes. How is the need for a high quality, dependable supply of water met in one of the most arid regions of the U.S.? In Las Vegas, this need is being met by one of the largest municipal water supply programs now underway in the United States. This 2 billion program of the Southern Nevada Water Authority is designed to improve the reliability, increase the capacity and address product quality of the system that provides water to the “entertainment capital of the world”.
