Description: Reuse of High-strength Wastewater from Biodiesel Manufacturing
Reuse of High-strength Wastewater from Biodiesel Manufacturing
Abstract
This manuscript describes a full water reuse system installed to treat biodiesel wastewater. Cooking oil and grease from grease traps are waste and are transformed into clean biodiesel fuel – a resource. Wastewater treatment system includes oil and grease trap, fine screen, equalization tank, nanobubbles enhanced flotation system, Hybrid UASB anaerobic bioreactor, aerobic MBR, and optional RO. Sludge is dewatered with screw press and used as animal feed. Treated water is reused in cooling towers.
Biodiesel manufacturing results in production of large amounts of high load wastewater. Residual unreacted methanol from transesterification process along with produced glycerin contribute to high contaminants load. Biodiesel washing also produces emulsified oils. In this manuscript we describe wastewater treatment system installed to produce reuse quality effluent at biodiesel manufacturing plant in dry area of Brazil. Biodiesel is produced from collected waste oil.
