Same Problem, Many Options – How to Make a Decision on Manhole Rehabilitation?
Abstract
Structural capabilities of manhole rehabilitation by means of no-dig technologies is not well understood. There are numerous materials and techniques available on the market today, and this turns the selection of the most appropriate method a challenging task for wastewater utilities and engineers. This study investigates these techniques with respect to their structural capabilities and provides a user friendly decision support tool for material and method selection for rehabilitation of a manhole. While, a fully structural rehabilitation would be preferable, such techniques cost significantly more than semi-structural and non-structural rehabilitation; and therefore, the decision support tool provided herein can be used to determine the optimum solution for each manhole so that owners can apply a long-term fix that meets the specific needs of a manhole rehabilitation project at the lowest cost.
