The Need for Speed: Design/Build Delivery of City of Atlanta’s Turner Field Media Lot Combined Sewer Storage Vault

The City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management’s Southeast Atlanta Green Infrastructure Initiative includes short-term, mid-term, and long-term projects intended to maximize green infrastructure solutions while making effective but minimal use of more traditional gray infrastructure solutions. The Media Lot, a surface parking lot immediately adjacent to the south of Turner Field is the site of a 5.9 million gallon (MG) underground storage vault, a gray infrastructure solution that provides combined sewer storage and peak flow reduction in the Lloyd combined sewer basin. In order to construct the $20M project in a four month construction period coinciding with the Atlanta Braves’ offseason, DWM selected a Design Build alternative delivery procurement based on a formula method which scored contractor qualifications, approach, and pricing
