Keeping a Finger on the Pulse of Our Industry: A National Survey of our Biosolids and Digester Gas Reuse Practices
Abstract
Understanding how digester gas and biosolids are reused is critical to providing us with the proper background knowledge and understanding to allow us to appropriately map out tasks and ideas for improving our existing cogeneration systems, implementing new cogeneration technologies and processes, and increasing the overall level of sustainability in our wastewater treatment practices. Due to the increasing development of similar survey efforts throughout the country and the evident benefit such surveys provide to the wastewater industry, a need for a comprehensive nationwide effort was identified. Information will be carefully tabulated and broken down by state, treatment plant capacity, and so forth. Digester gas production and biosolids processing technologies will be evaluated, as well as digester gas and biosolids reuse practices. The compiled information will be presented at the Water Environment Federation's Residuals and Biosolids Conference in March 2012.
