Removing Headspace Restriction Saves Thousands for Hillsborough County, Florida
Abstract
Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department, with the assistance of Siemens, identified and eliminated a hydraulic restriction in a gravity sewer upstream of a master pump station.Identifying the restriction required careful observation of site conditions and 24-hour analysis of atmospheric pressure in the sewer. Once identified, the restriction was eliminated by adjustment of wet well levels at the Master Pump Station. This adjustment allowed odorous air in the gravity sewer to be conveyed to the vapor-phase odor control system at the pump station and resulted in complete elimination of upstream chemical addition for odor control.
