Odor Control Planning for the Edwards Wwtf – Keeping Air Fresh in the Colorado Rockies
Abstract
The Eagle River Water & Sanitation District (ERWSD) owns and operates three wastewater treatment facilities (WWTF) in Eagle County, Colorado, located in the re sort communities of Vail, Avon and Edwards. As a result of a Master Plan, the decision was made to consolidate all solids treatment facilities at the Edwards facility (EWWTF). As a consequence of its location near an Interstate and multiple residences in a resort community, reducing off-site odors were established as key design criteria. In order to provide guidance to the design team, an Odor Control Master Plan (Plan) was prepared. The Plan identified and quantified all plant odors and established a strategy to control foul air emissions from the enlarged solids handling facilities as well as the entire plant. This paper reviews the Plan, resultant pilot test results, and the impact on the design that stems from the Plan.
