EPA WASTEWATER TECHNOLOGY FACT SHEETS: We're looking for a few good technologies
Abstract
In accordance with the Clean Water Act, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is required to collect, evaluate and disseminate technical information on various wastewater technologies, treatment processes, and other operating methods. Areas where technical information is currently needed include wastewater treatment, wet weather flows technologies, and biosolids management. In the past, EPA had provided this information by conducting evaluations of new treatment processes and management practices, and reporting the results through a series of technology fact sheets and tri-folds, many of which are now in need of updating. In addition, fact sheets need to be developed for new and emerging technologies that have not been previously addressed.Technology fact sheets can be used to verify performance or operational information, or to provide guidance when information provided by the manufacturer, developer or operator of the technology is incomplete or confusing. These fact sheets can also be beneficial in answering basic design related questions, in identifying specific weaknesses or limitations, and for addressing operation and maintenance concerns. In addition, information in these fact sheets can be used to identify a specific range of conditions under which the technology demonstrates maximum or minimum performance efficiency.Developing these technology and management fact sheets is an essential first step in disseminating actual field data on selected technologies to the EPA Regions, States, municipalities and the engineering community. This paper will discuss the status of the development of these fact sheets and solicit input from the engineering and manufacturing communities as we move forward to develop additional fact sheets over the next few years. We want the involvement of the deliverers of these goods and services, as well as potential users and other interested parties, so that the products can be the best and most useful possible.
