CULTIVATING NEW ENGLAND BIOSOLIDS RECYCLING
Abstract
In May, 1998, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) contracted with the New England Biosolids and Residuals Association (NEBRA) to complete an evaluation of the obstacles to beneficial use of biosolids in the New England region. NEBRA completed a year of informal data gathering and a formal survey of identified stakeholders. The resulting report, “Cultivating New England Biosolids Recycling: Current Issues/Proposed Strategies for Improvements,” provides 1) a summary of the current status of the recycling of biosolids and other residuals in New England; 2) a discussion of the obstacles to biosolids/residuals recycling in the region--including physical, climatic, political, and social factors; and 3) proposed strategies for addressing these obstacles.
