Abstract
Biosolids processing and handling are constantly confronted with an ever-present potential for generation of odors. Each unit process within a treatment facility has the potential for generation of odors. How a facility is designed and operated has a large impact on the generation of odors.The public perceives odors as negative aspects of a facility. This paper discusses how the selection of technologies and their operation impacts odor generation. The operation of the facility directly effects the quality of the Biosolids and their application for beneficial use, Biosolids stabilization storage, composting, alkaline stabilization, heat drying and issues ‘beyond the facility’ will be reviewed.
