WATER ON THE WEB: CUSTOMER INFORMATION TO PROMOTE CONSERVATION
Abstract
Community Water Company (Company) has made individual water consumption and conservation information available on the web for its customers. Customers are able to review 13 months of their own water usage on the Internet, updated monthly. A comparison of consumption levels with similar customers in their neighborhood and in their community is provided. It is our belief that an awareness of consumption information will lead to increased conservation on the part of our consumers. From the information available at the utility, a water conservation message has been tailored to fit the customers' needs. In general conservation messages use a one message fits all approach, consumers do not always believe these messages relate to them. By customers using their account numbers, the Company is able to direct more specific messages. The use of the Internet to reach our customers is in its infancy. The application for future uses appears very strong. Additional messages related to other services provided by the Company can also be included in this project.
