Readying Leadership and Management for Dramatic Changes at Alexandria Sanitation Authority (ASA)
Abstract
Dramatic changes were taking place at Alexandria Sanitation Authority (ASA). Increasingly stringent effluent limits, proposed by the VPDES permit, were driving changes to equipment and increasing the complexity of the entire treatment process of both liquid train and solids train. The leadership team had to step up to the plate and actively prepare to meet the needs around managing such a complex and diverse process. This paper discusses challenges facing ASA, shows how the leadership team rose to the challenge, reveals progress by the leadership team, explains lessons learned during this project, and finally, and most importantly, shows tangible benefits derived as a part of this evolutionary process.
